I've Been Blacksmithing Lately

9/30/2026

I started my knife of course. that is at a standstill at the moment due to limitations of my little makeshift forge. It's not deep enough. But I have a few more projects in the works, including some ornate hairpins. I'm quite excited for those. But I also ordered a cheap new anvil. It's probably an objectively bad anvil, but it'll be better then the 2cm^2 soft steel anvil on the back of my bench vise. In addition to the pins and knife, I'll be working on some new bending and cutting tools(hot chisel and bending fork) but I assume that the technical projects will be of little interest to others.

I AM AWARE THAT THIS SITE LOOKS LIKE ASS, AS DOES MY OTHER ONE I JUST YEARN FOR PRE-ALGORITHM INTERNET. I AM NOT A WEB DEV AND I AM WRITING THE HTML FOR THIS FROM THE TERMINAL ON A 3 INCH SCREEN.

Alas, it is all for you, dear friends. Please check back to read about what I'm working on and learning about<3

Sewing Projects?

I think I'm going to commit to a new sewing project soon. The weather is perfect for something cute and warm. I've started drafting a skirt pattern, something much shorter than the maxi one I made before, although I may use the same fabric. Plaid is just so good, I'm not sure I can resist using it. Someone tell me to get started on it so it's done before autumn reallly sets in.

Another thing I've been reading about is crowns, tiaras, coronets and diadems, all ornate headpieces. I've been pondering the possibillity of making a simple one for funsies. The exact differences between the specific headwear are hard to find an objective differentiation for other than ones based on class or title. For instance, a crown and a coronet could be identical, yet one is for a monarch, while the other worn by a duke or an earl.

But I want to make a fairly simple iron band with only some ornamentation. I could do so with silver as well but I'm having trouble making wire or round bar stock from what silver I already have and would rther avoid buying prefabricated stock for that.

My silver solder is arriving today!

It will be my first time soldering silver. I have a ring that I am resizing. I've cut the shank open and have shaped a new insert to fill the gap. If it goes well, I'd love to resize any silver rings anyone has as long as they're willing to be guinea pigs for my continues practice.

UPDATE, SOLDERING IS HARD, FUCK MY LIFE
